They'd gone separate ways for the party. Squall was Squall, of course, and he'd needed time to reflect and to think, so she'd sought comfort and distraction in the birthday celebration while he took that time.

But now the celebration was over, and Aeris was sure it'd been hours since she'd seen Squall, or felt his sturdy, reassuring presence. In his silence, there lie so much careful thought, such full emotion, lurking under the surface, that it smothered out the emptiness of the island. She was so glad he was here now. Without him, the island seemed...void. Like one of ShinRa's cells, with invisible watchers peering in at her.

She loved Cloud, of that there was no question. She loved Zack, too. She loved AVALANCHE and Roxas and all of New Wutai. But this...felt different. This must have been the sort of love that Tifa spoke of. It was all so exhilerating and new, and she couldn't help wanting more.

Aeris tilted her head, as she wandered up toward the hut where Squall resided. She couldn't see into it, or sense anyone within it, but it seemed the most likely place he would be. "Squall? Hello?"

Presumably, our pups have lives that happen when we aren't playing them, as none of us can play 24/7. Some of the things that happen are tedious and everyday, and not worth thinking much on: It's fair to assume they eat, bathe, go to "work" or school as it applies, etc. But there might be things that happen between pups that, while not necessarily requiring a thread, are important to note for the sake of development. The important stuff should always be played out, but we know you can't always play everything, and sometimes you need a little nudge in the right direction.

This is the post for discussing what our pups might get up to that doesn't get threaded.

"It's too dangerous."

She smiled, and poked a teasing finger to his chest. "You always say that, Cloud!"

The man looked momentarily affronted, before his expression solidified into a neutral frown. "Sephiroth could find out."

"I can deal with Sephiroth, you know." She placed her hands on her hips, and looked to Tifa for support. "No one else can do this. It's the only way."

"We're all going together, Cloud. It's no more dangerous than any of our other missions."

To Aeris' eyes, Cloud might have visibly crumpled just a bit, before he ran a hand over his face. "Fine. We go together."

She grinned brightly, taking Tifa and Cloud's arms in either of hers. "When we save the world, Cloud...lets have our date on an airship!"

Disbelief seemed a proper response to the initial question. Aeris settled on amusement. It was not every day you saw two SOLDIERs settling down on one knee--trying to figure out different ways to say the same thing. It had to be unbelievably embarrassing. Yuffie had to have put them up to it. It would explain how they both came to the conclusion that this was 'the only way' to settle it.

She covered her grin with one hand, as she looked down at them, before winding her hands behind her back, and leaning down toward their level.

"What if I said yes to both of you?"

She tried very hard not to giggle at their twin expressions of dismay. Cloud looked a bit more aghast than anything else--but it was sometimes hard to read his stony expressions--pale or no.

She took a few steps back, swinging her still joined arms from side to side, before nodding. "Alright! I know what to do."

Zack frowned. "...You do?"

"Yep! You both stay right there, okay?"

The two SOLDIERs nodded with varying hesitation.

Straightening, she lifted one hand to cover her eyes, and brought the other to point in front of her--in the general direction of the two suitors.

The sunset bathed the beach in brilliant colors of which she could not name. Hundreds of unfamiliar figures milled about their business. Tears were shed, laughter shared, and despite the noise of the crowd, the island felt strangely quiet where Aeris stood, a short distance from where the others prepared. Her green eyes studied the horizon as she partook in the silence that threaded through the island. So many had prepared for this moment, if only in the back of their mind. Years for some, months for others.
